Use of perlite

Bulk

Dry non-treated heat and sound insulating material. A suitable insulant in primary and secondary transmission systems. Suitable as a backfill of the outer two-layer walling.

Perlite plasters

Heat-insulating qualities of expanded perlite are maximally valued in perlite plasters. They can be used not only as internal plasters, but a suitable combination of the perlite plaster with waterproof surface treatment can make perfect outside plasters with air channels for gases and water vapour, resistant against penetration of rain water. Perlite plasters are absolutely inflammable and can be used for all external walls of residential buildings. The determining criterion on which all main physical qualities of the plaster depend is its heat conductivity, strength and volume weight.

Preparation of perlite plaster

Put expanded perlite into the mixer and add cement and water. Turn on the mixer and keep adding water. After short mixing check the consistency of plaster. Thin with water or thicken with expanded perlite, if necessary. The plaster is prepared after 4 to 6 minutes of mixing. A longer period of mixing is not necessary, on the contrary, mixing longer than 10 minutes has a negative impact on plaster qualities.

The procedure of plastering is similar to that of application of classical plaster. It is recommended to apply a thin layer of a thick cement spray on the walls before application of perlite mortar. The perlite plaster is then applied on the wet surface in layers. The thickness of one layer of plaster should not be greater than 2 cm. The following layer shall be applied always after solidifying of the previous one. In case that there is a support network on the wall the applied layer can be thicker.

Perlite concrete

The perlite concrete is one of the lightest silicated heat and sound insulating construction material prepared from expanded perlite and cement using wet or semi-dry methods. Individual types of perlite concrete use raw material recipes written for 0.1 m3 of ready perlite concrete.

The right recipe may prepare perlite concretes with a wide range of qualities, from the light ones for their heat-insulating use to the heavy ones with sufficient strength for being used as structural elements.

Preparation of perlite concrete

For preparation of perlite concrete a similar procedure is to be applied as for the preparation of plasters. The produced perlite mixture shall not be too liquid. The concrete mixture contains a significant amount of water. To guarantee good heat-insulating qualities of glass concrete let the previous layer of glass concrete dry or structurally provide the possibility of constant and sufficient ventilation of the built layer before application of the following glass concrete layer.

Agroperlite

The ratio in which Agroperlite is to be added to the soil depends on the soil quality and the type of cultivated plants. For cultivation of flowers and vegetables in gardens, greenhouses or plastic greenhouses up to one third of Agroperlite may be added to the soil. There is a general rule saying that the heavier the soil is the greater amount of Agroperlite is needed to make it lighter. Due to the ability of Agroperlite to support the growth of roots its doses are increased in case of growing of root vegetables or growing of vegetables from flowers or plants. It is of advantage to add Agroperlite into light sabulous soils for its ability to keep the moisture and nutriments.

Vapex

Cleaning of floors in production halls, garages, petrol stations, yards of construction sites and workshops polluted with petroleum products. Cleaning of the floor is based on scattering of sufficient amount of Vapex on the floor and it absorbs petroleum products very quickly. Subsequently, Vapex is swept. In case of use on wet floors the amount of absorbed oil does not decrease under 350 l/m3 of Vapex.

Elimination of petroleum products from the surface of still water levels

Vapex needs to be spread on the water level on the windward side. The wind and natural motion of water waves transport Vapex to the opposite side of the water surface. The soaked Vapex is then collected by means of net collectors. 1 m3 of Vapex can soak 250 to 400 l of oil.

Elimination of petroleum products from running waters

Petroleum products may be eliminated from rivers, brooks and channels by means of fixed or floating scum boards. The stream is stemmed on its whole width using a scum board and a sufficient amount of Vapex is spread in front of the scum board. The floating layer of Vapex catches petroleum products from the water level and the clean water runs under the scum board. If the stream is impetuous several scum boards have to be placed one after another. This method can catch at least 350 l of oil in 1 m3 of Vapex.

Extinguishing of burning oil substances

Vapex can be used also for extinguishing of burning spilt oil substances. As Vapex absorbs burning petroleum products it enables easier enclosure and liquidation of fire.
